I am Persian.
Rituals and ceremonies are important to us.
When we lose someone close to us, we wear black for an entire year.
It is more than tradition.
Wearing black is comforting, lets others know you are grieving so they understand you better, it also reminds us that we are grieving so we can be gentle to ourselves and sit with it, instead of trying to process super fast.
Black pulls the energy in, brings us to a deep place inside where we get to sit and be with our grief. It is important to feel it and honour the transition.
There is comfort in this solitude, there is growing in this solitude.
